The Garcia vs. Martin – Matchroom boxing fight will see Mickey Garcia face off against Sandor Martin for the European super-lightweight championship in Fresno on October 16. Matchroom has officially revealed the card. The Garcia vs. Martin – Matchroom boxing fight match card will also have a couple of light flyweight title matches. Elwin Soto will defend the WBO light flyweight belt in one of the undercard matches against Jonathan Gonzalez. Jesse Rodriguez will challenge Esteban Bermudez for the WBA light flyweight belt. Earlier, Garcia had been linked to an exciting bout with former unified champion Regis Prograis. But that has either been postponed indefinitely or has slim chances of ever happening. Instead, Garcia will face off the Spaniard Sandor Martin.

Since taking it back from Andrea Scarpa some years ago, the latter has defended his belt more than a couple of times. His last match was against Kay Prospere nearly half a year ago. The former four-weight unified champion, Mickey Garcia, was last involved in a boxing match nearly one and a half years ago. He obtained a points win over his fellow Mexican-American Jessie Vargas at Star in Frisco, Texas, held in the Ford Center. Now, he is planning a path towards greater World title glory. He is a fan favorite in California and is looking to put on a show at the mainstay of the Fresno Grizzlies. Garcia said, “I am very excited to get back in the ring and give my fans another night to remember. I’m looking forward to seeing everyone on October 16 in Fresno – it is going to be a great night of boxing.”

Sandor Martin has both activity and form at his side as he makes his debut in the nation in the most crucial bout of his career. The boxer got a wide decision victory over Kay Prospere in the successful defense of his European Super-Lightweight some months ago at his Barcelona home ground. In the Garcia vs. Martin – Matchroom boxing fight, he will be looking to give his all in the ring because he believes it can be a life-defining moment. Martin said, “I am so excited for this opportunity. The sport of boxing brings me the chance to change my life. There will be a before and after for everyone in this fight.”

Jonathan Gonzalez challenges Elwin Soto for the WBO title

The Garcia vs. Martin – Matchroom boxing fight co-feature will pit WBO light flyweight champion Elwin Soto versus the mandatory challenger Jonathan Gonzalez. It has been termed a Mexico vs. Puerto Rico fight and was initially supposed to be held a month earlier. Gonzalez is much better than what his record shows. He put forward a great effort against Kosei Tanaka in his previous championship match. Elwin Soto is also very exciting to watch as a spectator. This match could easily snatch the spotlight away from the Garcia vs. Martin – Matchroom Boxing Fight. Soto enthralled a capacity crowd at the AT&T Stadium on the weekend of Cinco de Mayo. He stopped Katsunari Takayama in the penultimate round of their fight on the undercard of fellow Mexican boxer Canelo Alvarez’s fight with Billy Joe Saunders.

This was another successful defense for the young man and the first inside the vicinity of the championship that he obtained from Angel Acosta with a great final round knockout over the Puerto Rican more than two years ago. He will make another defense versus Gonzalez on the night of Garcia vs. Martin in a fight associated with Zanfer Promotions. Soto said, “I cannot wait to get back in the ring and defend my title. Texas was a great night, and I think this will be too. Gonzalez is a proud Puerto Rican contender, and we all know that when Mexico and Puerto Rico step through the ropes, there are fireworks, so the fans are going to love this fight.”

Mandatory challenger Gonzalez is another Puerto Rican rival who stands in the path of Soto in Fresno. Gonzalez is in his second World title path after going to Japan two years ago to fight WBO Flyweight champion Kosei Tanaka. The amateur got the WBO NABO championship the next year. He defended that belt with an early stage knockout of Armando Torres this year to get the mandatory challenger status. Gonzalez said, “I have been waiting for this opportunity for a long time. Soto’s style fits me perfectly. It will be a war of Puerto Rico vs. Mexico.”

Jesse Rodriguez Challenges Esteban Bermudez for the WBA title

The opening match in the Garcia vs. Martin fight card will see the contender Jesse Rodriguez challenge Esteban Bermudez for his WBA light flyweight belt. On one side, it is a great matchup. Bermudez sprang up a surprise and defeated Carlos Canizales earlier in the year. Rodriguez is a great candidate climbing up the boxing ladder. On the other hand, people are not sure how this is fructified. The WBA has told Bermudez to go against champion Hiroto Kyoguchi. Both sides had entered negotiations to postpone the purse bid. The current developments mean that either Hiroto is injured or he cannot compete right now. A possibility may be the coronavirus protocols in his home country Japan which may not be allowing him to travel to the US.

Bermudez got the WBA belt from Carlos Canizales earlier in the year. He prevented the defending champion in Mexico City fairly quickly in the first World title fight of the Mexican. The boxer now faces a big test in his first belt defense against emerging Texas star Rodriguez. Bermudez said, “This is going to be a great fight. Jesse is a talented fighter, and I am sure that he will be in great shape and ready to rock on October 16. However, I worked too hard to become World champion to let it go in my first defense, so this will be a war.” Rodriguez is one of the top young stars of American boxing. The Texan will get his first shot at the World title in Fresno. Robert Garcia has trained him. The boxer will be looking to follow the steps of his brother Joshua Franco, who is the WBA World Super-Flyweight belt holder, and get more hardware for San Antonio.

Rodriguez said, “This is the opportunity I have been waiting for my whole life. First of all, I want to thank everybody at Matchroom, Robert and Mikey Garcia, Mr. Honda, my father, and everybody at RGBA for supporting me since day one. I also want to thank Bermudez for allowing me to fight for his title. I know it will not be an easy fight, but I plan on walking out of the ring on October 16 as the new World champion and bring the title home to San Antonio. It will be an honor for me and my brother Joshua to be World champions at the same time. I am training very hard and promise I will not disappoint anybody.”
