The Dillian Whyte vs. Otto Wallin fight has been postponed after the former had to pull out of the match due to a shoulder injury just some weeks before the fight. The Dillian Whyte vs. Otto Wallin fight was going to determine the mandatory challenger for the world heavyweight belt of Tyson Fury. But now, the Dillain Whyte vs. Otto Wallin flight has been postponed due to Whyte's injury. It is not known if the event has been called off completely or a new main event will be held. This is because the fight card was going to feature a lot of big names. According to promoter Eddie Hearn, more than 10,000 tickets had already been sold. An official announcement of the postponement of the Dillian Whyte vs. Otto Wallin fight is yet to be made by Dillian or his squad at Matchroom Boxing.

The Dillian Whyte vs. Otto Wallin event would also have a unified world super lightweight title match between Mary McGee and Chantelle Cameron. There were also matches for fan favorites such as Johnny Fisher, Alen Babic, and Ellie Scotney. The cancellation of the Dillian Whyte vs. Otto Wallin fight may prove very costly for Matchroom Boxing and Hearn. Both are having a difficult time after Mikey Garcia and Anthony Joshua lost in upset decisions. At the start of the previous month, there was a disaster in Headingley Stadium in Leeds when Mauricio Lara and Josh Warrington finished a technical draw because of a cut. This means that Warrington will most probably need to have a trilogy bout with his rival.

A few weeks later, Oleksandr Usyk won the world heavyweight belts against Joshua at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium. He had entered the match as the favorite over the mandatory challenger. He was supposed to go against Tyson Fury in a fight that crossed hundreds of million in Saudi Arabia. However, the match was canceled after Tyson Fury was told to go against Deontay Wilder in a trilogy. Then just a few days ago, the relatively unknown Sandor Martin defeated Mikey Garcia, a former multiple-weight world champion, in a fight that led to a lot of hassle for the US operation of Matchroom.

Postponement turned out to be a significant blow

The postponement of the Dillian Whyte vs. Otto Wallin fight was a great blow to both Whyte and Wallin. After their fight a few years ago, the Swede hoped to force a rematch with Tyson Fury, where he almost managed to pull off an upset. The Brit was cut by Wallin early in the fight, and as the injury deepened, the medical team thought of stopping the match. This would have seen Wallin being declared as the lineal champion. This would have stopped the Wilder rematch from taking place last year. But Tyson Fury persevered and finally won a lopsided decision after his squad managed to control the bleeding nearly. On the other hand, Whyte has been the mandatory challenger for the WBC belt for some years. The only exception was a short slip-up last year against Alexander Povetkin. He corrected that in Gibraltar this year.

Dmitriy Salita, Wallin's promoter, said, "It is very disappointing. If it is an injury, then he should heal, and they should reschedule this event. That would be the fair thing to do. It would not be fair to the sport of boxing for Dillian Whyte to have an injury, whatever it is, and as a result of that, to be able to be mandated to fight Fury. Otto is ready to go to the UK today. He had a complete training camp. This fight guarantees a lot of attention. It was truly the right eliminator for the fight with Fury. The fight has to be rescheduled for a later date, and the winner of that fight should fight Tyson Fury. Anything else would be unfair to the sport of boxing and unfair to Otto Wallin. We are going to petition the WBC to make a decision. That is what should be decided - the winner of Whyte-Wallin fights Tyson Fury. The WBC will pass what I feel is an important decision, which should set things right."

Swedish southpaw Wallin was looking to upset Whyte and get his position as mandatory challenger to Tyson Fury. Wallin had given Tyson Fury a massive cut when they had faced off against each other a couple of years ago. Whyte had said that a win over Wallin would help to solidify a long-awaited championship chance for him. He had said, "Hopefully, now the WBC forces my position and Fury has no choice. I am looking to fight Fury next if everything goes according to plan. Wallin is a dangerous operator - he pushed Fury all the way." Wallin's promoter Salita had said: "Out of all the great fighters that Tyson Fury beat, the one fighter that gave him the most trouble, caused most controversy with the cut, who landed more punches than Wladimir Klitschko and Deontay Wilder in their first fights combined, is Otto Wallin."

Conclusion

The WBC has told Tyson Fury to face the winner of the Dillian Whyte vs. Otto Wallin fight. He was not allowed to organize a match with Oleksandr Usyk because of his contracted rematch with Anthony Joshua. The postponement of the Dillian Whyte vs. Otto Wallin fight leaves no obvious rival for Tyson Fury. He stands atop the league as WBC champion after another big victory over Deontay Wilder. The WBC has said that the trilogy winner between Wilder and Fury will have a month to set up a fight against Oleksandr Usyk, who is the WBO, WBA, and IBF champion.

Alternatively, he would have to fight the reigning interim champion, the winner of Dillian Whyte vs. Otto Wallin. But Anthony Joshua has said that a rematch clause will ensure that he goes against Usyk early next year. Whyte will remain the interim champion even if he withdraws from the Dillian Whyte vs. Otto Wallin fight.
