Kid Galahad will defend the IBF world featherweight championship on his home ground in Sheffield against Kiko Martinez on November 13 in the Kiko Martinez vs. Kid Galahad fight. The Spaniard will stand in the path of Galahad, announcing his presence in a stacked division. A few months ago, the latter's big victory over Jazza Dickens saw him get the IBF belt, and a victory over the well-traversed Martinez will get him close to some bigger matches. The likes of fellow Brit Leigh Wood, Mauricio Lara, and Emmanuel Navarrete are possibilities in the future. Galahad is ready to defend his belt. But he will have to go the distance against the robust Martinez and hope that both his shots and jab are sharper against a rival who will continuously look to press him.

The Kiko Martinez vs. Kid Galahad fight is a new multi-fight promotional deal with Matchroom for Galahad. The latter believes that Eddie Hearn is the man to give the huge unification matches. When it comes to the impact of Hearn on the sport of boxing, he said that the boss of Matchroom is equal to some of the biggest names in the sport. Fans will appreciate his work after he retires from it. "If anyone can do it, it is going to be Eddie Hearn, and it goes way back. When no one else gave me the opportunities, Eddie always did. The Matchroom team is professional. When I have boxed elsewhere, they just have not been professional. The shows are not good. When you are signed with Matchroom, there is no messing about. The fights are not fights. They're events. I feel like all these old promoters are still stuck in the 60s and 70s, and Eddie Hearn has taken it to another level. People will appreciate him when he has gone. Like Muhamad Ali, Naseem Hamed, Ricky Hatton, Joe Calzaghe, when they were around, people always made excuses and gave them no credit. And then I say make sure you enjoy it now because when he has gone, he has gone. People do not realize how good he is promoting the shows. Appreciate it while he is here."

Galahad Comes into the Fight After Overcoming Dickens

Galahad will come into the Kiko Martinez vs. Kid Galahad fight replete with confidence, gradually dismissing familiar rival Dickens this year. Galahad dominated the match in the Matchroom Fight Camp that was held in Essex. He has only a single defeat on his complete career record. Dickens got a cut above his right eye in the opening round from an apparent clashing of heads. Galahad pumped up the pressure from there on in with a jab that helped to keep Dickens away from the victory. The higher punch output of Galahad was noticeable. There was blood pouring from the nose of his rival during the middle of the match. So, the match was pretty conclusive from there on for the fighter from Liverpool. The referee shut down the match after his rival was left bruised and battered. This was a gradual demolition job by Galahad on him.

The fight finally ended a few rounds before the finish when his corner refused to let him continue the match due to his injuries. Galahad had previously defeated Dickens nearly a decade ago. There was a brief moment in the middle of the match when Galahad lost focus for some time and was caught with a few left hands that gave his rival some hope. But that only boosted on the Qatar-born boxer, who responded with a great left hook. This was before he wrapped up things before the end. It was a big win for Galahad. His only defeat to date came against the British Josh Warrington a few years ago. Galahad has been an able match for Warrington and could have well won that match if the split decision had gone in his favor. Both super middleweight Billy Joe Saunders and promoter Eddie Hearn thought he had done enough to secure a victory.

Galahad says that he has to deliver a statement in the Kiko Martinez vs. Kid Galahad fight. He said that the match would be a homecoming for him as he is going to be fighting in Sheffield. He said, "I am not looking to go in there and take it easy because I know if he gets the opportunity, he is going to try and get my head off clean. So, I am going to go in there, and I will send him into retirement. It is just mad because I have never really had this. I just can't wait. Go in there, headline my show and make sure I do a job on Kiko. I just cannot wait, do not get me too excited. I have got to go to bed."

Martinez has also been defeated by Warrington before

Warrington, like Galahad, has also defeated Martinez. The two went against each other nearly five years ago in the hometown of Warrington, and the home boxer again got the vote by the judges. Warrington did deserve the win this time. He had cleaner shots and a higher work rate. This got him the vote over the Spaniards. With these two matches against Warrington considered for the fighters, it is not shocking to see Galahad as the favorite for the match. But it seemingly has not factored in the track record of Martinez. Prior to the victory over Duran, he put up a great show against British candidate Zelfa Barrett.

On the undercard to Warrington's loss to Lara more than half a year ago, Martinez fought hard and put in a solid fight against the Manchester boxer. But the judges saw it from a different lens. Bob Williams and Steve Gray scored the match in favor of Barrett. Howard Foster scored in favor of the home boxer. Martinez said, "The UK is like my second home, I felt robbed against Zelfa Barrett, but all the fans know who the real winner was. I hope that this time the judges will be fair with me. Galahad is a very good boxer, and I respect him, but I am very confident in my abilities. I am excited about this opportunity. To become a World Champion in a second weight division is my goal."
